February 13th 11AM -- The Creamer's Wild Life Refuge annual Sled Dog Envy Run  5 miles

February 13th  The Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race --  A 1,000 mile race over historic Alaskan and Yukon gold rush and mail trails begins in downtown Whitehorse, YT and ends 10-15 days later in Fairbanks,

February 20th -21st  The Gold Run-- Watch cross-country skiers hook 2-dog, 6-dog, and 10-dog teams in a skijoringrace.

February 27th  The Iron Dog Gold Rush Classic---World's longest snowmachine race starts in Wasilla February. 21. Racers travel to Nome and then on to Fairbanks, over 1,970 miles later.

March

March 3-14 World Ice Art Championships---International sculptors produce larger-than-life works of art. Held at Ice Park on Phillips Field Rd.

March 6th-7th Nenana Ice Classic Tripod Weekend---Winterfestival in Nenana, 60 miles south of Fairbanks. Includes raising of the famous Nenana Tripod, dog races, food family fun and dance group performances.

March 6th-7th North Pole Winter Carnival-- Winter carnival with games, food, bazaars, entertainment, mushing, and more. Held in North Pole.

March 12th-21st Fairbanks Winter Carnival---Celebration of winter including snowshoe softball, parka parades, camp stove chili cookoff, and more.

March 13th-14th Chatanika Days---Winter festival featuring the outhouse races, long-john contest, and more. Held in the historic gold mining town of Chatanika, 30 miles north-east of Fairbanks.

March 17th Alaska Dog Mushers Association's  Annual Passenger Race---7.7 mile race.

March 19th - 21st Open North American Championship Sled Dog Races---Three-day series of races beginning and ending in downtown Fairbanks draws the world's fastest mushers. The oldest continuously run sled dog race.

April

Break up begins -- The long thawing process between winter and summer

April   -- The Arctic Man snow and go Classic. Snow mobile drivers pull skiers up hills and the skiers race down hill on an 8 km course at Summit Lake, 2 hrs. south of Fairbanks.

May 15th 10AM -- The 18th Annual Chena River Run  10k

Alaska Land, the River boast discovery and most area attactions open for the season.

June

June 3 -- With the last frost past this is the first safe day for planting a vegetable garden in Fairbanks

June 19th 10PM -- The Annual Mid-Night Sun Run 10 K 10K race draws thousands of   runners, walkers, and costume wearers. Meet at the UAF Patty Center. MAPCO cup event.

June 21st  10:30 PM -- The Annual Midnight Sun Baseball Game---The Alaska Goldpanners Baseball Team plays a late night game with no artificial lights.  For more tickets and more information call (907) 451-0095

To Be Announced -- Yukon 800 Boat Race---High speed 800 mile boat race from Fairbanks to Galena, and back onthe Chena, Tanana and Yukon rivers.

July 4th -- Fairbanks Preservation Society 4th of July Celebration-- Celebrate Independence Day at Alaskaland with live music and fun family activities.

July 10th-11th North Pole Summer Festival---Celebrate summer with a parade, food, crafts, games, rides, races and more

July 14th-17th -- World Eskimo-Indian Olympics---Native peoples from Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, and Canada gather in Fairbanks to compete in traditional athletic games at    the Big Dipper Arena.

July 15-25  Golden Days -- Fairbanks celebrates its gold rush history and the 1902 discovery of gold with parades, races, costume and look-alike contests. The annual  Golden Days Grand Parade and Rubber-Duckie Race will be held on July 24th in downtown Fairbanks.

July 24th -August 8th The Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival -- Visual and performing arts festival featuring workshops and concerts with international guest artists and instructors at the UAF campus.

July 25th 9AM  Gold Discovery Run---16.2 miles. Meet at the Felix Pedro Monument. Entry fee. MAPCO cup event.

July 31st 9 AM   Beaver Sports Triathlon---Swim/bike/run. Sponsored by Beaver Sports. Meet at Olnes Pond (Elliott Hwy.).

August

August 6th-14th Tanana Valley State Fair---Alaska's oldest fair features huge cabbages & vegetables, a rodeo, livestock competitions, carnival rides, live entertainment, good food, and much more!

August 30th  The summer and gardening is over with the on set of the first frost.

September

September 18th  8AM -- The 37th Annual Equinox Marathon  26.2 miles One of the toughest marathons in America! Meet at the UAF Patty Center. A MAPCO cup series event.

October 30th 12 noon 18th Annual Halloween Family Run---2 or 10 miles, pies for best costumes! Meet at the UAF Patty Center.

November

November 10th -- 13th Athabascan Fiddling Festival---This music festival is a definite must see. Featuring traditional Athabascan Indian fiddling and dancing.
