CAMPING AND RV SITES

 

    A cost saving alternative to staying in a local hotel are campgrounds and RV parks.  Within a matter of minutes of downtown Fairbanks and local tourist destinations there are over a dozen sites offering a variety of services and activites.
    Fairbanks has  a lot to offer for example: There are several places right around town where you can set up your tent or park your RV in a wooded area, hike or bike along secluded roads and nature trails, canoe, swim, or even go fishing. Other places offer a greater degree of sophistication offing hook ups for water, electric, and even cable Tv if you so desire.   So whatever your tastes or level of needs you may have Fairbanks has the perfect place for you.

Alaska-Land,
2300 Airport Way, Fairbanks:

Located almost in the center of Fairbanks, Alaska-Land is a theme park commemorating Alaska's purchase in 1869 and the historic events surrounding the founding of Fairbanks.  The park's main entrance is on Avenue of the Flags(a service road along Airport Way.)
In the Park's main parking lot 80  spots have been designated for self-contained RVs. I might add that local ordinances were passed making it that RV's can not here any longer than four nights in a row.

Potable water is available in the front lot and at the dump station around the corner.

Rates are $9 a night.

Chena Lakes Recreation Area:
Chena Lakes Recreation Area and Chena River Park

If fishing, boating, and swimming is your bag, Chena Lakes Recreation Area may well be the perfect place for you.  Located two miles south of downtown North Pole and only 15 minutes from Fairbanks Chena Lakes offers trails for hikers and bikers, you can also rent sail boats, canoes, paddles boats, fish and swim.

Chena Lakes Recreation Area has 82 campsites 42 of which are at the lake and other fourty are in the woods at the river park on the Chena River.on Univerity Aveune in Fairbanks

Amenities are potoable drinking water and a dump station is availible on site. And while no reservations are taken for campers. there is a six-night maximum stay here.

Rates are $8 per night for tent camping and $10 per night for RVs, and an annual pass is $60 which covers daily passes and camping.

Chena Marina RV Park, (Updated 8/07)
1145 Shypoke Drive, off Chena Pump Road:

This park offer a unique view of float planes takingoff and landings on the Chena River.

Located just west of Fairbanks on a float plane pond, Chena Marina offers 44 campground spaces, most with electric and water hookups. Other amenities are a "Klondinental Breakfast" a video lending library, Free showers and a car and RV wash as well as a coin operated laundry.

Reservations are recomended for June and July. Rates range from $28 to $40. They also have WiFi throughout the park at no additional charge

Chena River Recreation Area
1155 University Ave.  Fairbanks:

Looking for a secluded camping spot close to town? Try the Chena River State Recreation Site, located just off University Avenue and a brief walk from shopping and dining.

The campground has 61 sites, none with hookups. 10 of which are walk-in secluded tent sites.

Amenirties offer are Potable water and a dump station are provided, as well as toilets. a place to put your boat in the river and Hiking trails

 Rates are $10 for the tent walk-in spots and $15 for the RV sites.

 A maximum five-night stay is imposed from mid-June through mid-August.

Ester Gold Camp
Mile 351 Parks Highway, Ester:

Ester Gold Camp is known for its buffet and entertaining shows at it's the old-time saloon, And one of its main attactions is on sight gold pannning.

 The campground offers 16 sites for RVs and additional areas for tent camping. showers and a dump station are availible..

 Rates are $10 a night. .

 The campground is open from May 28 through Sept. 4, the same dates as the Gold Camp. Reservations are accepted.

Norlite RV Park & Campground,
1660 Peger Road in Fairbanks:

Spread over 10 acres, this large campgrounds has 210 sites, and 50 tent sites.

Amenities offered are Hot showers, laundry, car and truck wash are available on site as well as a dump station. They also have a small grocery, a gift shop with a selection of Alaska ivory carvings and jewelry, tour information and tickets.

Rates are $22 for full hookups of water, electric and sewer, $20 for water and electric and tent sites are $10 per night. Weekly, and monthly rates are available. Phone service on some sites. Reservations accepted.

Northern Exposure RV Park & Campground,
The corner of Steese and Elliott highways in Fox, Alaska:

Located 10  miles north ofFairbanks, Northern Exposure offers Fifty camp spots are spread out on the property, including some around a man-made small lake. All provide water, sewer and electric hookups.

Rates are $18 a night. Tent camping is $10 per night.

Amenities offerered are:  A dump station is on site. Coin-operated laundry and shower facilities, as well as a small gift shop. Reservations can be made.

Northern Exposure is strategically located near local tourist sites such as Gold Dredge No. 8 and El Dorado Gold Mine.

Pleasant Valley RV Park
24 mile Chena Hot Springs Road:

Nestled among aromatic pines minutes away from ChenaRiver Recreation Area the Pleasant Valley RV Park offers it's guest hiking, biking, along local trails and canoeing

 Pleasant Valley offers 20 sites, with water and electric hookups, coin operated showers, laundry facilities and next door is a small grocery store.

 Rates are $20 a night for full hookups and $10 a night for a tent space. Reservations are suggested during the peak season, around the July 4th weekend.

 Located close to the entrance of the Chena River State Recreation Area, the campground also offers canoe rentals and easy access to the local network of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and ATV driving.

Rivers Edge RV Park,
4140 Boat St. Fairbanks, Alaska:

Looking for a convenient spot in the midst of Fairbanks? Then try Rivers Edge RV Park located off Airport Way just west of University Avenue.

 The campground overlooking the Chena River offers 180 camp spots, from dry sites to partial hookups to full-service.

 Free showers are available, as are shuttles to the nearby Fairbanks International Airport and various tourist destinations. A gift shop and laundry facilities are also on-site and shopping malls are a short walk away.

 Rates range from $15.50 for tent camping and self-contained campers to $24.95 for full service, including water, sewer and electric. Restrooms, dump station, picnic tables, coin-operated, do-it-yourself RV wash on site. Handicapped accessible.

Riverview RV Park
1316 Badger Road

IIf  you're looking for a full-service campground, that includes cable television and e-mail service, Riverview RV Park may be the place for you. Located minutes from Fairbanks and North Pole Riverview is at 3 Mile along Badger Road.

 This campground offers 160 full and partial hookups, Electrical hookups, tent sites, and dry camp spots as well. Amenities are  water, sewager, electric hook ups and free cable television.  Individual shower rooms are also available, as well as laundry facilities, e-mail service, a dump station, and a free vehicle wash area. Riverview even has a grocery store with an ATM.

Rates are $23.95 a night, which includes all utilities.

Roads End RV Park
1463 Wescott Garden Lane, North Pole:

Located halfway between the cities of North Pole and Fairbanks along the richardson Highway Roads End has  65 camp sites partial and full hookups, as well as a few spots for self-contained camping.  Amenities offered are showers, a laundry facility, and a dump station.

 Rates range from $10 for dry parking and tent camping to $18 for full service, paid in cash. Credit card payments cost $20. Weekly and monthly rates are also available "

Roads Ends will take reservations, but the campground typically maintains a first-come, first-serve policy.

Santaland RV Park
125 St. Nicholas Drive, North Pole:

Located right next door to the internationally know Santa Clause House, Santaland RV Park with it's giant Santa Claus statue are located at Mile 348 of the Richardson Highway, right  in the heart of North Pole.  Santaland offers 85 full-service camping spots, 9 tent spots and 7 self-contained RV slots.

Amenities are: City water, sewage, electric hook-ups, cable television, and even local telephone hookups are availble for long-term campers.  There is also a shuttle bus service availible from Santaland to major attractions in Fairbanks."

Rates are $22 a night for full-service utilities in a pull-through camp spot.  Ther eis also a two dollar fee for each person inyour group over two years of age.  Camp spots with water and electric but no sewer are $18 a night and dry camping (no water) is $15 a night .  Santaland also offers a car wash and dump station.

Because of its prominant location along the Richardson Highway Santaland is usually booked so you might well want to make resevations in advance to stay here.

 Tanana Valley Campgrounds
1800 College Road  Fairbanks

Nestled in a picturesque stand of blue spruce next to Creamer's Field Bird Sanctuary, and the Tanana Valley Fairgrounds, the Tanana Valley Campground is an ideal place to stay while visitng the Golden Heart City and local tourist attractions.

Space is limited here with only fifty camp sites for tenting and RVs available, so you might well wnat to reserve one here for yourself.

Amenities offered are: Showers, laundry facilities, pay phones, a place to hook up your PC's modem, and a dump station are on site.  Tanana Valley also offers moderately priced breakfast and dinners for those camping there.

Rates are $8 a night for tent camping, $12 a night for RVs without electric and $15 a night for sites with electric.
